" What a great race and morning in Fort Story! The kids seemed to love it, especially the loud clapping at the finish line." - Bobby Woodard, Team Hoyt VB

"The volunteers, the course, the food, the beer, the location - all top notch! And we really enjoyed seeing and running with Team Hoyt. I especially liked the top prizes - my first place (in my age group) picture is hanging proudly on the wall." - Hallie Trout

" I do a lot of runs in the community for worthy causes and I’ve gotten my share of ‘hardware’ … but Saturday’s ‘trophy’ was one of the BEST I have ever gotten -- the framed artwork from one of the children!!! " -- Linda " Sunny " Fox

The children and young adults of St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children need your help to reach the finish line. Our 21st Annual 5K Run and Walk will take place Saturday, Oct. 3, at 9 a.m. on a mostly flat course on scenic Fort Story. This fun event for people of all abilities raises money to support the programs and services of St. Mary’s Home. A One-Mile Fun Run will follow the 5K, with finishers 12 and younger receiving medals.

Once again, some St. Mary’s residents plan to take part in the race. Members of the Team Hoyt VB running club pushing, and children and adults with disabilities from the community, in jogger strollers.

New this year: the 5K has been selected for the Tidewater Striders 2009 Walking Grand Prix series of races that count toward awards from the club.

Come out to Fort Story and enjoy music, food and a drawing with prizes including concert tickets and museum passes. Race winners receive special awards: artwork created by St. Mary’s residents.

Register online on our secure website or download the registration form here.

Watch Team Hoyt VB and some of St. Mary’s residents in action at another race earlier this year.
